INAVISIS® was launched in January 2000 in beautiful San Diego, California. The company, also known as “The IP Specialists”, was established in response to the need in the market place for accurate valuation of intangible assets and the development of intellectual asset management strategies. In the beginning, INAVISIS® started with three employees that were recognized experts in their fields. Shortly after its inception the swift market response pushed the growth of the company into a medium size boutique that focuses all its efforts in the intellectual property arenas.
Initially, the company focused their effort on intellectual asset management and patent portfolio analysis with special emphasis on the valuation of intellectual properties. The donation of intellectual properties to non-profit organizations was a popular program and the need for accurate and defensible valuations of intellectual property was critical to develop values that would meet the IRS requirements.
INAVISIS® acquired the rights of the technology factor method from The Dow Chemical Company. This unique technology valuation method was developed by Dr. Khoury, during his employment at The Dow Chemical Company, along with the prestigious consulting firm Arthur D. Little. This method was designed specifically to determine the fair market value of technology and used extensively in negotiations of licensing deals.
In late 2001 companies that we did valuations for their technology challenged INAVISIS® to license technologies that we valued. That gave growth to the global licensing activities at Inavisis. So, in October 2001, Inavisis International, Inc. (III) was registered to conduct business in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. This independent and separate entity was created with special focus on licensing and international marketing of intellectual properties. The location and the time zone of the international offices are ideal to conduct licensing activities in Europe in addition to the East Coast of the United states. This expansion was a natural extension and allowed clients to take advantage of the extensive contacts that INAVISIS® have at large organization on a global basis. Moreover, this leveraged the contact list of Dr. Khoury that he built during his volunteer work as the chairman of the valuation and taxation committee of the Licensing executive committee for two years and three years as a board member of the Licensing executive Society (LES)-the largest licensing organization.
Litigation to enforce patented technology was always part of the services that INAVISIS® offered its clients. INAVISIS® is appointed by several Fortune 500 companies as damage experts both for plaintiffs and defendants. As we started licensing the technology companies were resisting taking licenses even if they were practicing the patented technologies that INAVISIS® was responsible to secure licenses. So INAVISIS® expanded its services and added team members with litigation experience specifically to manage the enforcement licensing and the litigation process for our clients. Today INAVISIS® is recognized as one of the leading firms that conduct enforcement licensing and litigation to enforce those rights. Inavisis® believes highly in IP Rights Preservation in all areas of business.
Monetization services were started in early 2004 when the financial institutions realized that intellectual properties can be used as collateral for securing funds to support the growth of an organization. Although this asset class as a funding source is still in its infancy, INAVISIS® is asked by financial institutions to conduct due diligence in order to support lending practices for the banks to the owners of intellectual properties.
