FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 18, 2002 - A New York Times article entitled "Patent Donations Are Novel Corporate Gift" discusses the recent practice of patent donations and their implications in business.

The article cites commentary from numerous individuals involved in patent donations to illustrate the principles driving such donations. Among those cited is Dr. Sam Khoury, the president of Inavisis International Inc./CSG, whose input in the article provided insight into the donation process. One of Dr. Khoury?s comments related company efficiency to patent use. "Good companies use only 20 percent of their patents [while] badly run companies use only 10 percent," Dr. Khoury was quoted as saying. Intellectual property experts confirm that the remaining unused patents can be viewed as "treasures gathering dust."

According to the article, intellectual property donations provide not only tax benefits to companies, but also generates good will between companies and universities, and motivates researchers by having their ideas used. Also stated is that although licensing is the first option for patents that will not be used by a company, donations offer quick returns for those that are not ready or ill-suited for licensing.

The number of patent donations is expected to grow as more innovative technologies are researched and patented. Patent donations provide another means for companies to maximize ther intangible assets, while at the same time fostering innovation with universities, hospitals, and other non-profit groups.
