Technology Valuation

Picture
_ INAVISIS® is a leader in the valuation of Intellectual Property (IP). The company is involved in the valuation of all types of intangible assets. We have experience in valuing businesses and their leading edge technologies, including:
  • patents
  • trademarks
  • trade names
  • trade secrets
INAVISIS brings business common sense and reasonableness check to the final value of an intellectual property. In addition to the standard valuation methodologies (Market, Income and Cost Approaches) that are commonly applied, INAVISIS uses multiple methods in its appraisals. These additional valuation methods allows INAVISIS to meet the American Society of Appraisers recommendation of applying two approaches in determining an asset's value.

Technology Licensing

Picture
_INAVISIS® goal is to help its clients properly leverage their intellectual assets. Companies focus on developing their own products and markets.  They do not have the resources to identify their most marketable intangibles that might fit other organizations. This can result in the unrealized loss of millions of dollars in potential licensing revenue.

Companies are retaining INAVISIS to license technologies that do not fit their core business and rely on INAVISIS contacts in industries outside of their own.  The licensing process begins with identifying the most licensable intangible assets from a portfolio, or focusing on a specific technology or a trademark that a client has already pre-selected.

INAVISIS has their own proprietary data base of negotiated licensing deals and are comfortable in assigning an appropriate market-based royalty rate and upfront fee.

Shareholders of public companies are demanding that their company license underutilized valuable patents to improve their profitability. INAVISIS has the track record and experience in selecting winning technologies and have secured licensing revenue for several organizations.

Business Valuation

The business valuation process follows a standardized procedure regardless of the size or type of company, or which valuation method is used.  The valuation method has four main components:

  • Forecasting the company cash flow
  • Estimating the cost of capital
  • Determining the terminal value of a business
  • Analyzing and interpreting the final value

INAVISIS applies the methods recommended by the American Society of Appraisers for the valuation of closely held companies.  The method is known as the Excess Earnings Method (EEM).  The EEM was originally defined by Internal Revenue Service Revenue Ruling 59 – 60 and later modified by Revenue Ruling 68 – 609.

Dispute Resolution and Litigation Support Services

Attorneys retain INAVISIS employees as expert witnesses to engage in disputes requiring knowledge of customs and practices in licensing and/or to calculate the value of the damages as a result of patent infringement.

Rather than act as a “Hired Gun” damages expert, INAVISIS brings “real-world” business experience to its assignments.  This experience stems from managing the intellectual properties of businesses with responsibilities for licensing, royalty studies, claim mapping, transaction advisory, and patent portfolio analysis.
